Heart Consciousness & Cacao

Now more than ever, with everything going on in the world, we as a people are in need of remembering our heart consciousness.

As we enter into this new year, we have the opportunity to create personal and collective healing by actively shifting away from automatically operating from our analytical minds and instead learn how to open up and operate from our heart.

Starting this January, I will be holding Sacred Cacao Circles; a monthly offering to explore our heart consciousness in sacred community through the powerful medicine of Cacao. For the time being, these offerings will be held in-person here in the Virginia Beach area with the strong possibility that I will open up these circles in an on-line capacity – so please stay tuned.

Regardless if you are able to attend in person or not, I wanted to share a little bit about my journey with cacao and why it is so important at this time to explore and awaken our heart consciousness.

Cacao has been a powerful practice that has woven into my life and into this deeper discovery of my heart consciousness; of who I am, where I come from, and what I am called to do in this life.

I was first introduced to Cacao when visiting Chaco Canyon in the southwest – an ancient archeological site where many mysteries still remain of who gathered there, what their practices and customs were, and why or how they disappeared as a civilization. One artifact that has remained in their disappearance were loads of white clay cups with traces of cacao found on their surface.

Along with gems and minerals from around the northern and southern hemispheres, many historians and archeologists believe that peoples from all over the ancient world traveled to this spiritual center of Chaco Canyon to meet, possibly trade, and spiritually connect over Cacao.

I always found this incredibly exciting and intriguing – never having considered cacao as a spiritual practice until this time.

I later came upon the ancient Mayan traditions of cacao and learned it has been revered in their culture as a sacred food from the stars for thousands and thousands of years. Cacao was even considered more valuable than gold and is still today revered and held sacred by many living Mayan traditions.

These discoveries eventually led to my own personal exploration and deep dive into the world of cacao.

My whole life I have always been drawn to the concept of deep agape love. Not love in a romantic sort of way, but in a deep, reciprocal, and divinely awakened consciousness. This kind of love spoke to my heart and I while I couldn’t quite make sense of it cognitively, I deeply felt that this type of love contained the all the answers to healing our broken world.

When I discovered cacao, I realized there was a food, a medicine that could enable this deep profound love to expand and grow within my heart and inform deep ancient wisdom to my consciousness, ultimately awakening my own heart coherence and consciousness and inspire deep healing and call to action.

I began to go into my own personal ceremonies with cacao and channel the messages of this divine feminine plant medicine. Almost immediately I received profound teachings and wisdom for my own healing and expanded consciousness. For a while I thought this might just be my own personal spiritual practice and I loved it.

This past year I was surprisingly invited to train and learn from Mayan elders in Guatemala, learning the ancient practices of cacao and how to work with this sacred medicine.

Something beyond myself invited me to explore cacao in a more profound way than I ever anticipated – not just for myself, but to be shared with the world.

From this trip, I have been led and called to open Sacred Cacao Circles as an invitation for others who are ready to explore their heart consciousness and remember deeply who they are, where they come from, and why they are here.

While Cacao is a powerful and profound spiritual gift to help awaken our heart consciousness, it is not the only way we can come into relationship with our heart.

Even if you can not join me in-person, or virtually for Sacred Cacao Circles, I invite you to begin cultivating a relationship with your own heart on a regular basis. Begin by taking a few quiet moments each day and placing your hand on your chest, right on your heart (or heart chakra). Take notice of the warmth you may feel between hand and heart. Imagine this warmth stirring your heart awake with love.

Close your eyes and begin to take slow mindful breaths. Imagine you are breathing in infinite love that exists all around you and into your body, filling every single cell and awakening your heart.

Imagine that this breath is love itself and you are inviting in that love in its fullest capacity.

Even if your mind may be distracted with thoughts about the day, lists of to-dos, frustration over family members or co-workers, hurts or sadness, breathe in this love anyway. You can still take notice of all those different feelings and thoughts, while still allowing this breath of love into your body.

On your exhale, imagine that you are breathing out all those frustrations and limited beliefs or thought patterns. Imagine anything that just doesn’t feel good anymore, or feels confusing and not clear, that it is released on the exhale. Let it all go. For these few moments with your heart, you do not need to think about any of it. Do this for a few minutes each day.

Hand on heart.

Notice the warmth.

Breathe in love.

Breathe out limiting beliefs and feelings.

Repeat.

Do this until you begin to feel a little tingly enjoyable activation in your heart area or otherwise feel like it is the right time to stop.

It may feel subtle and sweet, or profound and deeply emotional as though you are remembering a long lost part of yourself. If you are unable to feel an activation or warmth in your heart area, do not try to force it or judge your experience. Just take notice and allow it to be. If this repeats for several days in a row, where you are unable to feel any sensation in your heart, please reach out to me or schedule a free consultation and we can discuss what might be going on.

Sending you so much love and light as we enter this New Year and prayers for an expanded heart consciousness for our personal and collective healing.

Love,

Emily
