I've struggled for many years, to truly feel love for myself. It wasn't that I didn't like myself, or care about myself, but I couldn't feel that love for myself. It wasn't until I began to do some practices in Heart Math that I began to change the relationship I had with myself. Placing one hand gently on my heart and fostering up the feelings of when I felt love in my life, I began to re-wire my body, heart and mind. I started to feel, to remember, that love in myself and for myself.
As I continued that practice on my own, in combination with forest bathing, I learned to not only love myself, but to come home to myself with that love in the nature of which I am part of. It started to become existential and universal quite fast. I remember this vivid image that came into my awareness one day as I sat amongst the trees, the sun rising and its beautiful colors illuminating the sky. As I sat with my hand on my heart, for a brief moment, I could feel that same sun and beautiful colors of sky illuminating my interior body. It was magical and eye opening. In that brief moment, it was an awakening of truly understanding how the universe is within us, and we are within it.
You can check the quantum physics here, but I'm pretty sure this metaphysical experience I had and the ones that many saints have described historically, are revealing some deeper truths to the very real nature of our existence. We are in the universe, and the universe is within us. And when we take it a step deeper, when we love our self, we love the universe.
In my daily practice, I have started to play with taking this deep love I hold for myself and imagine holding the Earth in this same love. If my rudimentary and simple metaphysical and quantum understanding of the universe is correct, when I am loving the earth, I am loving myself. Now, to be honest, every time I try this practice I have found it difficult. I try to practice holding the earth in my love, but in doing that it places the Earth outside myself and then I seem to lose focus.
What I have found to be much more effective is to imagine the earth inside my heart, beating as my heart. When I place my hand on my heart and remember my deep and profound love for myself within, I am also doing it for the Earth simultaneously. If we could all make a daily practice of doing this, we are loving a more loving reality into our existence. Our thoughts carry energy, our feelings carry energy, and when we can make a practice of loving self, we are loving the universe. And the universe is loving back.
